(content/article writing sample) Oliver Sim Says More Music Is Coming From The XX

Oliver Sim has teased that there will be new music from his band The XX sometime in the future. According to NME, Sim said in a recent interview that “The XX will always be my home and will always be my priority. And normally I wouldn’t speak for Romy and Jamie, but I know they feel the same. I think all of us doing our solo projects just makes me excited. It’s like, how is this gonna change the band? What have we all learned independently? And nothing is recorded at the moment, but there is more music from The XX, definitely.” Sim’s update on the band comes after each member has been participating in solo projects. The XX hadn’t been in the studio together since December 2021. The last time new music from the band was mentioned was in a post they made on Instagram in January 2020 right before the world changed from the COVID-19 pandemic. The XX previously made Mxdwn news after Sim announced the cancelation of the band’s upcoming tour dates for Fall 2022. The band has also annou...

(content/blog writing sample) East Tawas, Michigan

I had the pleasure of taking an excursion to the city of East Tawas, located in the northeastern region in the lower peninsula of Michigan. The city has a bustling downtown area that has multiple local businesses that help contribute to the tourist economy that the city thrives off of. I found joy in visiting a local chocolatier that had many unique takes on traditional chocolate treats. I visited some of the other local shops that sold products made by artisans throughout Michigan. There was everything from the traditional "Lake Life" t-shirts to specialty cherry wines made in Michigan. I was also captivated by a beautiful mural that was painted on the bricks of one of the stores: a fun scene that takes place in the serenity of Lake Huron, a carefree woman parasails through the waves while other colorful parasails float on in the background. The city has also been clearly upkept, with gorgeous hibiscus flowers on each street corner. Also not to be forgotten is the multiple p...

(short story) Looking Through The Fence

He chose the swings today , she observes.   Tess watches the little boy, Tristan, choose a swing placed relatively higher up. He stretches out his skinny arms and tightly grasps the rusty chains. He tries to pull himself up onto the swing, and Tess can see his face turning tomato red. Tristan is scowling, making sounds of frustration while his shaggy, auburn hair gets blown into his face by the wind. When he falls on his bottom a third time, he tears up. Giving up, he storms off to the other side of the playground, and Tess slowly traces his path on the outside of the fence. She wants nothing more than to jump the fence, put him on that swing, and push him to his little hearts content. She remembers the time years ago when she could have. She continues to subtly watch Tristan attempt his next adventure: trying and failing to scale up a wide-birthed oak tree. She can't help but smile, happy to see he still has a sense of adventure and stubborn determination.   Thr...

(poem) Life Path

A life for a life  They change mine  And I'll change theirs  They'll make me some kind of hero  Their strength will make me stronger  My plan is bigger than social work  The real plan is change  Change for the child with the bruised face  Change for the child with real monsters at night  Change for the child with the gaunt face  Change for the children that need an escape  I dream of the day I won't have to save the poor children in need I dream of children in safe homes  With food, shelter, a chance and love  The "social worker" label I'll wear with pride I'll fight my way through school  So I can meet the children, have them change my life  So I can change theirs too *2014- Bailey C. (short story) Unreal

I walked into the main room of the hospital, glancing around warily at the tacky paintings and doctor charts on the wall, the peeling paint, and the ugly moss green and white tiled floor. I tried not to breathe through my nose, for the distinct scent of sickness wafted through the place, out of every room. I couldn't help the grimace that formed on my face as I avoided the gazes of sickly patients and rushing doctors. A nurse finally noticed me and my unease, and approached me slowly. "Hello...may I direct you somewhere?" Her voice was annoyingly sweet, and she smiled lightly. "I...I'm looking for room 7A." I stuttered out. She nodded, and pointed down the closest hallway. "Turn left when you reach the end, and it's the room right on the corner." I nodded my thanks, and she walked away to attend to some other hopeless individual in here. I took in more air, and then started to walk down the hallway she pointed at. A nurse walked out of a room...

(poem) The Tightrope

Jealousy is a tightrope the girl steps along step    by step       by hard step The steady descent  into insanity She’s up on the high wire a hundred feet high That’s where jealousy lurks     that nerve in the brain        confident in what it believes YOU deserve            graceful in the one-way line it stalks across Slow and steady but shaking Trying not to tumble Shaking feet above the ground only the large net near the bottom to catch the fall Arms out, one step at a time      the fear of losing them attacks          the brain              the shaking feet, the frozen lungs            ...

(poem) Imagine

Who knows how one pair of eyes Can hold so much soul, so much wonder One can only ponder How they have so much depth so young An astounding imagination You can see the Indiana Jones adventure Or the princess in her tower, just looking into those eyes Shining so bright, with hope and pleasure So much in someone so small A mind that bests any adult's  Creative hands, make their own Van Gogh Just through a glob of finger paint Small hand inside yours So fragile, yet so strong The wonderment of being so young The magic that's inside them Look into a child's eyes See everything you wish you still had *2013- Bailey C. (poem) Cancer

A raging beast, this dreaded disease Until you're torn apart, it isn't appeased You fight the hardest fight of your life Causing your body's war to ensue This horrible fiend, this ugly monstrosity  I know it's attacking with an awesome ferocity I hope you know darling, for you I'm praying With you I promise, I'll always be staying You'll get through this, I know you're strong And don't you dare say that I am wrong Close your eyes and get some rest I hate seeing you in distress  I wish I could destroy all of those cells where all of that sickness dwells One day you'll be cured, happy and free A good future outlook for you and me Just so you know, I'm a phone call away I will come any time of the day To give you a hug and never let go See your smile and hear your hello So my dear, never give in And you'll look back on this and say "Remember when?"

(poem) Breaking Inside

Breaking inside Falling apart Banging on walls With no way out Scream and cry Broken heart Monster growing  Turning me inside out Lost control  Collapse on the floor Given up  From here on out Hope is lost No smiles, no laughter Darkness prevailing The light has gone out Dead inside Lonely and lost My tears fall The love is out *2013- Bailey C. (poem) The Heartbeat of a Song

Feel the pulse? The notes come to life  they flow through the air Music saving some from an endless strife going on without any a care Pulsing strong Slow or fast goes the masterpiece of a melody The music just knows to leave you singing breathlessly Can you hear the pulse? Music has the ability to restore and talks for you when you cannot speak The pulse goes on forever The soul of the music goes on, endlessly long Never stops and never sticks This is the heartbeat of the song *2013- Bailey C. (poem) The Beauty In Writing

When you are writing, you are painting a picture Making the words in your head more than a whisper Putting a scene in someone's head Saying things formerly left unsaid You are creating a completely new world Letting your imagination come unfurled Your mind is in a better place It's like you're floating in outer space You have something to pour your heart into Your writing telling what is really true It's when you let yourself go Writing or typing, letting the words flow Writing something that touches the soul Where the writing is the one in control Only a writer could understand The real meaning of a pen in your hand Let yourself take the notebook off that shelf Let the writing save you from yourself *2013- Bailey C.Writing

(poem) On The Outside Looking In

I used to feel like I belong But now I am a stranger I realized I am no longer strong Realized I am in danger I'm in danger of breaking down In danger of non-stop tears In danger of being drowned It's hard to face my fears I can never say what's on my mind It'd just cause a world of pain I will continue to keep them blind While I'm stuck here under the rain I look at their happy faces While I lurk in the shadows with a sigh I wish that I could trade places Instead of silently saying goodbye Maybe I'll rid of these feelings somehow I'll rid of my evil twin But I still know that for now I'm on the outside looking in *2012- Bailey C. (poem) A Night In Hell

Shadows are closing in around you and you cannot see your way through Look around for the light, but there is none in the dark of night. The raven's croak echos across the land and nothing is going as you had planned. Run through the crooked paths to try to escape the darkness's wrath You hear something overhead you're down on the ground now, filled with dread Close your eyes, go back to the past, not long ago before everything had gone below Embrace death now, as your friend and pray for a quick, painless end As your body slowly drains of blood and you feel the painful, internal flood You're all alone, you cry out but you keep going on without The worlds gone, as is any life it was destroyed in the endless strife *2013- Bailey C. (poem) Don't Give In

Don't give up, stay strong through it all You may rise and you may fall Through life's hardships, you must stand strong Until you end where you belong And though the world is full of sin Don't you dare, don't you dare give in Through every struggle, you must fight You can make it through the night You will wake to morning's glow Then your tears will start to slow You may lose, and you may win But whatever happens, don't give in All you need to have is faith With it comes abundant strength Know that you will soon get by You'll no longer feel a need to cry Try to put on a brilliant grin And tell the world that you won't give in When you feel you've lost at life The pain is cutting like a knife Don't forget that love cancels out hate It will never be too late You'll realize soon that you will win Because you are the one who would not give in. *2013- Bailey C. (poem) The Candle

When I've lost all hope And don't know what to do I can count on my candle To always get me through In the night its flame flickers Beckoning sweet dreams I lay my head on my pillow And see many pretty scenes Its sweet vanilla scent Goes wafting through the air Making my toes tingle And making the flame flair I touch it's smooth surface As wax slides slowly down the side I feel its pleasant warmth I let the candle be my guide As the morning comes I blow the candle out And wait in anticipation for the night To bring the candle flame about *2013- Bailey C. (poem) The Silver Sound

Like a whisper of the wind Light as day or dark as night The soulful sweet sound flowing through the atmosphere Bringing peace to every being A gifted talent The proud rhythm Merry tunes or deep tunes It makes your toes tingle and your head bob It softens the loud or lengthens the soft The beautiful, bold music plays on through everyone's soul *2013- Bailey C.
