(poem) The Silver Sound

Like a whisper of the wind
Light as day
or dark as night
The soulful sweet sound
flowing through the atmosphere
Bringing peace to every being
A gifted talent
The proud rhythm
Merry tunes
or deep tunes
It makes your toes tingle
and your head bob
It softens the loud
or lengthens the soft
The beautiful, bold music
plays on through everyone's soul

I had the pleasure of taking an excursion to the city of East Tawas, located in the northeastern region in the lower peninsula of Michigan. The city has a bustling downtown area that has multiple local businesses that help contribute to the tourist economy that the city thrives off of. I found joy in visiting a local chocolatier that had many unique takes on traditional chocolate treats. I visited some of the other local shops that sold products made by artisans throughout Michigan. There was everything from the traditional "Lake Life" t-shirts to specialty cherry wines made in Michigan. I was also captivated by a beautiful mural that was painted on the bricks of one of the stores: a fun scene that takes place in the serenity of Lake Huron, a carefree woman parasails through the waves while other colorful parasails float on in the background. One of the most popular diet options is the “Keto Diet”. What does “keto” really mean though? Keto is short for ketogenic, and to put it simply, keto is a high-fat and low-carb diet that makes the body burn fat instead of carbs. The diet makes the body skip the function of turning carbs into glucose (sugar) and instead makes the liver turn fat into fatty acid and ketone bodies that replace sugar as a source of energy in a process called ketosis. The is mainly used to help people diagnosed with epilepsy by reducing the frequency of their seizures. The diet isn’t for everyone though- some reported adverse effects, such as constipation, stunted growth, high cholesterol, and even kidney stones.   So, what can you eat on a keto diet? A life for a life  They change mine  And I'll change theirs  They'll make me some kind of hero  Their strength will make me stronger  My plan is bigger than social work  The real plan is change  Change for the child with the bruised face  Change for the child with real monsters at night  Change for the child with the gaunt face  Change for the children that need an escape  I dream of the day I won't have to save the poor children in need I dream of children in safe homes  With food, shelter, a chance and love  The "social worker" label I'll wear with pride I'll fight my way through school  So I can meet the children, have them change my life  So I can change theirs too *2014- Bailey C.
