(poem) The Heartbeat of a Song


Feel the pulse?
The notes come to life 
they flow through the air
Music saving some from an endless strife
going on without any a care
Pulsing strong
Slow or fast goes
the masterpiece of a melody
The music just knows
to leave you singing breathlessly
Can you hear the pulse?
Music has the ability to restore
and talks for you when you cannot speak
The pulse goes on forever
The soul of the music
goes on, endlessly long
Never stops and never sticks
This is the heartbeat of the song

A life for a life  They change mine  And I'll change theirs  They'll make me some kind of hero  Their strength will make me stronger  My plan is bigger than social work  The real plan is change  Change for the child with the bruised face  Change for the child with real monsters at night  Change for the child with the gaunt face  Change for the children that need an escape  I dream of the day I won't have to save the poor children in need I dream of children in safe homes  With food, shelter, a chance and love  The "social worker" label I'll wear with pride I'll fight my way through school  So I can meet the children, have them change my life  So I can change theirs too *2014- Bailey C. (content/blog writing sample) East Tawas, Michigan

I had the pleasure of taking an excursion to the city of East Tawas, located in the northeastern region in the lower peninsula of Michigan. The city has a bustling downtown area that has multiple local businesses that help contribute to the tourist economy that the city thrives off of. I found joy in visiting a local chocolatier that had many unique takes on traditional chocolate treats. I visited some of the other local shops that sold products made by artisans throughout Michigan. There was everything from the traditional "Lake Life" t-shirts to specialty cherry wines made in Michigan. I was also captivated by a beautiful mural that was painted on the bricks of one of the stores: a fun scene that takes place in the serenity of Lake Huron, a carefree woman parasails through the waves while other colorful parasails float on in the background.
